Cannabis Crimes

Cannabis Crimes

Recreational marijuana is now legal in Illinois with many restrictions.  If you violate any of those restrictions you can and will be charged with a crime.  It is illegal to have in your possession more than:

  • 30 grams of the cannabis flower (weed)
  • 5 grams of cannabis concentrate
  • 500 mg of THC contained in a cannabis-infused product

If you are not an Illinois resident these amounts are cut in half.  Additionally, you must be over the age of 21 to possess or consume cannabis.

You can still be charged with a misdemeanor or a felony for illegal possession depending upon the amount.  (720 ILCS 550/4-5). If you are under 21 you can be charged and end up losing your driver’s license due to zero tolerance laws.

If you are charged with a cannabis offense you need an experienced criminal attorney who can navigate the new laws with confidence.  Call the Law Office of Daniel D. Hinich right away.
